March for Science & People's Climate March
The VADF Environmental Committee organized member participation at the March for Science hosted on Earth Day, April 22 and People's Climate March which took place the following Saturday, April 29th. Both of the marches took place in Washington, DC with sister events in other cities.
Many wonder why the events were so close together and, indeed, the organizers have addressed this on their website. From the March for Science site “people who care about science also care about climate change issues and vice-versa. The marches were not partnered but the organizers were in planning a dedicated week of action that took place between both events. Both marches were important, and had their own focus — the March for Science focused on the funding and accessibility of science, while the Peoples Climate March focused on standing up for social, economic, and climate justice. “

The March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good and for political leaders and policy makers to enact evidence based policies in the public interest.

People's Climate March: March for Climate, Jobs and Justice on the 100th Day of Trump's Presidency - April 29

The Peoples Climate Movement was a project of dozens of organizations working together to solve the climate crisis. It started with the historic Peoples Climate March on the eve of the UN Climate Summit in September 2014 when 400,000 people from every walk of life marched through the streets of New York City demanding climate action.
